"A while?" Val asked with a raised eyebrow.

Lionheart hit his head again.
He was pretty sure there was a dent now.
"Ugh, um, how am I going to explain this."
And they say age SHARPENS the mind.
Of course, he actually was very wise, but I guess today wasn't his day.
"I-am-old-enough-to-be-your-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather."
He hit is head on the bar again for flare.
Yup, defiantly a dent.

Valdrin found the statement comical and fell off his stool landing hard enough to cause his shoulder to make a cracking sound as he lay in a unceremonious heap on the floor.

Lionheart sighed "Laugh it up scale-face."
Its been a bad day.
But he had heard that crack.
"Hey, enough with the laughing, you okay kid?"

Val swung around and stood glaring up at him. His muscles where bunched and he looked feral.
"What do you mean scale face," His tone was hard and demanding.
Valdrin's eyes where flaring as an eerie light danced in them. A sort of hunger.

Lionheart frowned
"Its called a joke kid, relax."
He tensed at the agressive stance, but non-the-less, held his hand out.
"Now, ARE YOU OKAY?"

His left cheek muscle twitched with irritation.
"It's none worse then a training injury. I've suffered worse, but could that be what this is," he demanded again looking to his hands.
With ease he moved to his feet and rolled his shoulders checking for stiffness but never looking away from his hands.

Lionheart sighed again, running a hand though his hair.
"Look, I'm sorry for putting you though this disastrous evening."
He paused, thinking what he was about to suggest would only make it worse.
"...If you wish, we could inquire this quandary to your Grandfather."
He braced himself for the lash that he was expecting.

Valdrin stiffened. I had been along time since SilverSong and him had been on good terms, but what the man said made sense. It made too much sense. He wanted to be angry, but knew it wasn't LionHeart's fault.
"Do you know SilverSong of the Line Kenswell Last Chief of the Dragon Warriors? He is not an easy man to talk to."
Val's voice was hollow and a deep pain played in his eyes.

... Well, he wasn't expecting that. But, that hollowness, that pain. It was all way to real.
"No, I have had not the honor of counsel with your family for a long time. I had said, it has been a while. But, there was a time that I was fairly familial with your clan. I could try and negotiate between the two of you if you wish. Think of it as an apology for tonight."
Plus, he wished to make that hollowness in his eyes leave.

Valdrin smiled weakly. Not because he was cheered by the thought of having Lionheart among him and his own, but at the thought the comely man would travel to the Northern Lands with him.
"You are so kind. And you have nothing to apologize for. I know I am a bit impulsive. Are there any affairs you must tie up before we set off though? It is a long journey and the road is not often easy to traverse."

"No, I have no affairs." he said solemnly and he ran his hand tough his hair but stopped at his scalp.
I had been a long while sense he had been North.

"Then let's go procure a pair of mounts so we can be off with much haste, but you are sure? I notice you seem a bit edgy. Is there something about this trip that worries you?"
Val's eyes filled with concern for the man.

Lionheart blinked stupidly "Oh, no, nothing is the matter. I need to go get a few things. Why don't you go on ahead of me and get the mounts while I go and get them?"

"Yes. I can handle that. Meet you outside the city gates when you are done,"
Val gave a roguish grin and strode from the pub.
